Cacao Nib Tea Recipe

Before we delve into the cacao nib tea recipe, did you think cacao powder and cocoa powder are the same things? Well, they aren’t. Cocoa and cacao powder may seem synonymous terms, but they actually aren’t the same.

Both cacao powder and cocoa powder are derived from the same cacao plant, but the difference is that cacao powder is processed at lower temperatures which results in a dark, bitter powder that has higher nutritional content. On the other hand, cocoa powder is processed at higher temperatures, which results in a lesser bitter powder but relatively lower nutritional value.

What is Cacao tea?

Cacao nib tea is basically a chocolate-flavored tea, but it has a subtle chocolate flavor, unlike hot chocolate and hot cocoa. It is just made just like coffee except that instead of roasted coffee beans, we put roasted cacao nibs, which are small pieces of cacao beans. A steamy mug of this beverage will soothe your nerves and fill you up with warmth from inside out.

Benefits of Cacao Tea:

If you want to indulge in your love for chocolate, cacao tea is perfect for you without any health concerns! Since cacao is the unprocessed and purest form of chocolate, it is rich in nutrition and anti-oxidants.

Cacao nibs also have anti-inflammatory properties, may boost the immune system, and benefit blood sugar control. Also, cacao has the same amount of caffeine as your morning coffee, so if you are trying to cut on coffee, it will give you the same kick to start your morning!

Cacao Nib Tea Recipe

The Ingredients You Need:

You need 6 main ingredients to make this recipe. It would take you 10-15 minutes at maximum, and this recipe is for the serving size of 1 person.

1 Cup of Cacao Nibs

2 Cups of Water

¼ Ground Cinnamon

Pinch of Nutmeg

1 Tablespoon of honey: Feel free to use any other sweetener of your choice.

¼ Cup of Coconut Milk: Coconut Milk is simply a preference. You can use the same that you use for your coffee.

Preparation Method:

Step-I: Roasting and Brewing Cacao Nibs

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. To get the full flavor of cacao nibs, you have to roast them ideally for 10-15 minutes. Line the pan with parchment and evenly spread out the cacao nibs. Once they are roasted, allow them to cool for about 10 minutes.

Step-II: Grinding the Nibs

Once the nibs have cooled down, put them in your food processer or food grinder and process them until they look like regular coffee grounds.

Step-III: Add Nibs and Boil

Boil the water. Add  2 tsp of cacao nibs and boil for 10 minutes. You can add more nibs and boil for longer if you want more intensity of flavor. Strain the nibs.

Pro-Tip: Don’t throw the nibs. Add them in your smoothies, or sprinkle them over ice cream!

Step-IV: Final Touches!

Add some cinnamon, nutmeg, and milk. Depending upon your taste, honey or any other sweetener of your choice and Tada! Your beverage is ready!

Lastly, it might take you some time to find your perfect Cacao powder to water ratio. So don’t worry if you don’t get it perfect for the first time! Experiment till you get it to your liking.
